Aqasha Returns: Two Decades of Mastery from Melaka Understudy to Legendary Hang Tuah

KUALA LUMPUR — In one of the most poignant full-circle milestones of the 2026 production, veteran actor, vocalist, and screen favourite Aqasha has been officially confirmed to play Laksamana Hang Tuah in Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical 2026.

Aqasha’s connection to the production stretches back two decades to 2006, when he portrayed the Bendahara Melaka and stood as the official understudy for Hang Tuah during the musical’s legendary debut at Istana Budaya. Over the past twenty years, Aqasha has earned wide acclaim across television, film, and theatre for his commanding gravitas and soul-stirring vocal timbre.

The Ultimate Test of Duty and Love

Hang Tuah represents the tragic heartbeat of the Puteri Gunung Ledang narrative — a warrior torn between unyielding loyalty to the Sultanate of Melaka and his eternal devotion to Gusti Putri. Bringing a matured depth and emotional nuance to the part, Aqasha’s casting has been met with unanimous praise from theatre critics and long-time fans.
